FROM BEER TO BLUE GRASS
Another long teaching trip! I enjoyed a Minnesota Twins game in Milwaukee.  What a beautiful stadium!  We met up with a lot of fans from Minnesota so in a way, it was like being at a home game.  I am currently in Louisville, Kentucky producing voiceover demos.  It's always nice down here and the students are wonderful.  Excited to get back home on Sunday for a nice break!

TIM RUSSERT

What a sad day when I heard the tragic news that Tim Russert passed away.  "Meet the Press" was one of my favorite news programs.  Tim was not only an outstanding broadcaster but he was a great debate moderator.  It's sad that he will not be around to see who our next President will be.  I will miss him.  A true pro.

VOICE OVERS ON DEMAND LISTENERS COMMENTS

I thought I would share a couple of great comments we received on our podcast.

I am really looking forward to your next exciting episode (June 10th) with Rodney Saulsberry.  I just had to let you know that I really miss the podcast when you're not able to get them out as often as you might like due to your busy schedules. I often find myself going back and listening to previous episodes just as a refresher during the time between new episodes.  Thanks again for the effort and time that you put into this service for the VO communitty.

HAS THE LAGGING ECONOMY HURT YOUR BUSINESS?
It seems like you can't pick up a newspaper or a magazine without reading about the lagging economy. I was just curious if it has hurt anyone's business? It may seem like a silly question but I haven't seen much of a slow down in my world other than clients taking longer than usual to pay invoices. I am curious to hear your thoughts. For a lot of us who are doing well at this for a living, could you imagine the prosperity in a booming marketplace?

INDIANA JONES AND THE SEARCH FOR A BETTER SCRIPT
Instead of looking for the "crystal skull", Indy and his less than amusing entourage should have been looking for a script.  19 years for this?  There are some fun chase sequences in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" but the story is a confusing mess and there is no chemistry between characters who really weren't all that interesting to begin with.  I am also one who believes that Indy works better alone or maybe even with one sidekick.  Not three.  There are moments in this movie that are so bad, it looks as if a high school drama team is doing their version of "Indiana Jones".  I will leave you with a couple of positives.  There is enough action and a few of the sets are amazing enough to keep your brain active throughout the whole picture but after 19 years, I was expecting a lot more than I received.

A MEMORIAL READING

Here's a voiceover I did for a memorial DVD.  It was taken for from the movie, "A River Runs Through It".

THE SCREAMING TEENAGE SOCCER GIRLS FROM HELL!
Hello from Des Moines!  City of the screaming teenage soccer girls from hell!  At least that's how it feels in the hotel that I am in.  Maybe I am getting old but these gals have been running up and down the halls of the hotel, yelling and screaming for hours.  Unless I purchase about $10,000 worth of auralex, I don't think I can get any recording done.  Please send help or at last a bottle of Captain Morgan.  Ha!

VOICE 2008
TRISH BASANYI and myself will be attending "VOICE 2008", an event put together by James Alburger and Penny Abshire, who we interviewed on our latest episode of "VOICE OVERS ON DEMAND".  This is going to be a fantastic event.  We will get to network with many voice over friends who we have come to know by phone or the Internet.  We are also going to be doing some drops from John Florian's, "VOICE OVER XTRA" booth.  The event is August 8-11 in Los Angeles.

HELLO FROM AUSTIN!
Good evening!  A muggy night in Austin, Texas but what a wonderful city!  I am headed out tomorrow night to enjoy some great live music!  It's rare that I get some time off during these teaching trips but I lucked out this weekend and I can't think of a better city to have some time off in.  We had some great sessions at "Razor's Edge Sound" in Austin this afternoon.  Kevin Hamilton, the Engineer/Producer there has worked with a lot of musicians and it was fascinating hearing inside stories of the industry.  A talented guy indeed.  Have a great weekend!

THE MEDIA IS PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LAGGING ECONOMY
Hey, how about another front page story on how awful the housing industry and the economy are?  Is anyone else tired of the overkill?  Being the savvy entrepreneur that I am, my business depends on a strong economy.  It is my belief that it wouldn't be as bad, if the media would focus their attention on something else for a change.  A lot of people live in fear and this constant barrage of negativity makes everything worse.  Cheers!

RADIO COMMERCIAL FUN FACTS

Did you know that there are 11,000 radio stations in the United States?  Each of these stations runs about 12-15 minutes of commercials every hour.  That works out to be about 300 minutes worth of commercials every day at each station.  The average commercial is 30 seconds long so that is about 600 commercials on-air every day at every radio station. Multiply 600 by 11,000 radio stations and you'll soon learn that 6,600,000 commercials are being broadcast each day on the radio in the United States.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM MINNEAPOLIS!
I knew it!  I jinxed it by writing about the nice weather in my last blog!  Now, we're expected to get 8 inches of snow this weekend!  Last year, I had flowers coming up in landscape area.  How sad!  Please send the sunshine!

STOP THE PRESSES! IT'S 60 IN MINNEAPOLIS
While I do enjoy the beautiful spring weather, it's a little embarrassing when we get our first warm day of the year because all the meteorologists act like it's the second coming!  It's too early to celebrate.  We could still get snow in April.  Ha!  It is a nice feeling opening the shed doors for the first time this year.  You other yard nerds can relate, I'm sure.  :)
